About the farm
We sourced this exceptional lot from our good friend Damian — aka @changeoftone.coffee. Beyond the obvious – a passion for quality coffee – we share similar values: transparency in sourcing and visibility for the people who dedicate their lives to growing it.
Senel Campos was the first Costa Rican producer Damian bought coffee from, back in 2019. Since then, he’s watched his story grow — new land, expanding opportunities, shared moments along the way. In Damian’s words:
I deeply admire Senel’s humility, his family-centered values, and his unwavering work ethic, all carried with quiet dedication and never a word of complaint. Every time we visit, we’re struck by that same stunning view, the rhythm of the valley, and the irresistible pull of the cold San Jerónimo River.
Senel Campos started with one farm in Pérez Zeledón. Today he and his son Alan run La Toboba Jocotes — three farms across steep Brunca terrain, nestled in a mesmerizing valley overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The topography is broken and uneven, but all three farms enjoy nutrient-rich soil and a unique microclimate created between two nearby mountain canyons sliced by the San Jerónimo River.
Each year, Senel and Alan reinvest most of what they earn into buying more land and improving their processes — measuring Brix degrees, tracking pH, controlling every variable they can to influence the final cup profile of each microlot. A processing approach that’s evolved from rudimentary to precision-focused over the past decade.
