About the farm

Mount Kenya is the heart of Kenyan coffee production. Fertile, mineral-rich volcanic soil, reliable rainfall and a slightly cooler climate create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. There are two harvests a year; one from May to June and the other from November to December. Farmers handpick only the ripest cherries and deliver them to the wet mill the very same day, where they are sorted again to remove the inferior ones. After closely supervised depulping, fermentation and washing, the parchment is moved to the drying tables for slow sun drying on traditional African beds. Here they are regularly turned and protected from the harsh, midday sun. Once properly dried and conditionined, the cooperative moves the beans to the dry mill for secondary processing where the coffee is graded and extracted.
