Don Octavio

Bolivia, Caranavi
In Bolivia’s Caranavi region, coffee is a family affair. Don Octavio, his father, and now his children have all dedicated their lives to growing coffee. Those beans make a silky, honey-sweet and delicately floral cup, with notes of orange, pineapple and peach. What’s the secret? More than one lifetime of care.

About the farm

Don Octavio Chura’s finca covers 3 hectares in the community of San Juan, in the province of Caranavi at the foothills of the Andes. Bolivia’s largest coffee region — and one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. Virgin forests full of endemic plant species, jaguars, howler monkeys, countless waterfalls, rare orchids, hundreds of bird species.

Don Octavio and his family have been growing coffee here for generations, carefully cultivating agroforestry practices. No synthetic pesticides, alongside endemic plants — exactly as the land allows. Organically grown cherries reflect the health of the soil and its capacity for biodiversity in every sip.

Five of Don Octavio’s six children work alongside him today. There are no shortcuts on this farm — the work is demanding, relentless and takes years to master. Their commitment shows in every harvest.

Simple in form, certain in craft. Spirit light enough to enjoy. Reflecting good judgment. Skilled and experienced. Marked by desire to learn.
